More about credit cards with Velocity Points

What are Velocity Points?

Velocity Points are the reward currency of Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program. You can convert your NAB Rewards Points to Velocity Points.

How can I use Velocity Points?

You can redeem your points when you fly with Virgin Australia or partner airlines, use eligible credit cards, shop with partner retailers, book hotels, hire cars and more.

Do Velocity Points expire?

Yes – Velocity Points expire if you don’t earn points for 24 months. Any activity on your account resets the expiry on your entire points balance.

How to convert NAB Rewards Points to Velocity Points

You can easily convert the points you earn on your NAB Rewards Platinum or NAB Rewards Signature Cards to Velocity Points. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the NAB Rewards Store and link your Velocity membership number to your NAB Rewards account. If you’re not already a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, join for free today.
  2. Each month, your NAB Rewards Points will be transferred to Velocity Points. You can set up automatic redemption for convenience.
  3. Velocity Points converted from bonus NAB Rewards Points will be credited within three months of meeting your spend criteria.

How much are Velocity Points worth?

Two NAB Rewards Points are worth one Velocity Point

From 1 October 2026, redemption rates will change from 2 NAB Reward points to 3 NAB Reward points, for 1 Velocity Point.

Boost your Velocity Points balance faster by earning bonus points when you shop through the NAB Rewards Bonus Points Shop or Points Booster stores.

How many Velocity Points do I need to fly?

It depends on where you’re flying, when you book, and which seat you choose. Velocity uses distance based award charts, and prices can change based on demand and availability. For example, for an economy seat on a Virgin Australia domestic flight, you’ll need at least 5,900 points for a one-way flight.

Use the mileage calculator on the Velocity website to work out how far your points can take you.

  • How do I earn Velocity Points?

1. Apply for an eligible NAB Rewards credit card
Cards like the NAB Rewards Platinum Card and NAB Rewards Signature Card let you earn NAB Rewards Points, which you can then convert to Velocity Points in the NAB Rewards Store.
2. Switch on Auto Redemption
You can set up Auto Redemption so all your NAB Rewards Points are automatically converted to Velocity Points each month.
3. Earn points on your everyday spending
Each time you make an eligible purchase with your NAB Rewards Card, you’ll earn points. All your everyday spending, like groceries, petrol, takeaway coffee and more can earn points. You could also earn bonus points on certain transactions.
4. Take advantage of bonus Velocity Points offers
Keep an eye out for offers where you can earn bonus points by meeting minimum spend requirements and keeping you card open for at least 12 months.

  • Can I transfer Velocity Points to someone else?

Yes – you can transfer your points to an eligible family member who is also a Velocity member. You’ll need to log into your Velocity account to do this.
