What credit cards earn frequent flyer points?

If you're interested in credit cards that allow you to earn frequent flyer points, there are various options to consider. How do frequent flyer credit cards work?

Frequent flyer credit cards, such as the Velocity High Flyer credit card or Velocity Flyer credit card, are designed to help you earn points or air miles with a specific airline or frequent flyer program. These credit cards work by offering you points for every Eligible Transaction you make. The number of points you earn can vary depending on the card and the type of transaction. Once you've accumulated a sufficient number of Velocity points on your credit card, you can redeem them for various rewards, including flights, upgrades, and other travel-related Points. It's a great way to make your everyday spending work for you in terms of travel benefits.

How do I apply for a credit card?

The first step is to compare our credit cards. Decide which product suits your needs, then once you have decided which card you would like to apply for, click ‘Apply now’. It will take at least 20 minutes to complete if you have all your information available. Once you are approved you will be able to access your Card within the Virgin Money app and can download to digital wallet. We will send you a physical card within 10 working days of approval. We need to know your age, Australian residency status, full Australian Driver Licence card details or a current Passport, and your current financial details including employment and your monthly income and expenses.

Is Velocity Frequent Flyer membership required?

Yep, you’ll need to be a Velocity Frequent Flyer Member so that we can send you the Velocity Points that you earn with your credit card.You’ll need to give us your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number either on your application form when applying for your Virgin Money credit card, or by calling us on 13 37 39 available 24/7.If you're not currently a Velocity Member you can arrange this when you apply for your card, or head to velocityfrequentflyer.com where you can join for free online. If you choose not to join Velocity Frequent Flyer, you’ll be ineligible for any offers or benefits relating to Virgin Australia or the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program.

How are my Velocity Points earned and transferred into my Velocity Frequent Flyer Account?

For the Velocity High Flyer Credit Card, Velocity Points can be earned on Eligible Transactions and Virgin Australia spend . At the end of your statement period, the Velocity Points earned for that period will be automatically transferred to your Velocity Frequent Flyer Account.

The Balance Transfer interest rate applies to balances transferred with this offer for the period shown, from the date the Balance Transfer is processed, and the balance transfer fee (if applicable). At the end of the Balance Transfer Period, the interest rate on any outstanding transferred balance will revert to the interest rate for Cash Advances, currently 20.99% p.a. on the Virgin Money Anytime Rewards Card, Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card, Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card and Virgin Money No Annual Fee Card, and 21.69% p.a. for the Virgin Money Low Rate Card. Interest rates are variable and subject to change. The interest rates are current as at 09 April 2026. Neither Velocity Points nor Virgin Money Points are issued on Balance Transfers.   The Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card Bonus Status Credits Benefit is a Special Feature available to Primary Cardholders only. An additional 20% Bonus Status Credits will be awarded when you fly on an Eligible Virgin Australia Flight and meet eligibility criteria being: a) a flight purchased using your Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card directly with Virgin Australia (via Virgin Australia website, Virgin Australia Call Centre or Virgin Australia App); b) the Virgin Australia flight is eligible to earn Status Credits; c) your Velocity membership number was provided against the booking at the time of purchase or before your date of travel; d) at the time of booking, purchasing and taking the flight, your credit card account must be open and in good standing. The amount of Bonus Status Credits is capped at 100 Bonus Status Credits each credit card anniversary year. Status Credit earn is subject to the fare type and distance travelled. We will allocate Bonus Status Credits within 60 days of the allocation of your base Status Credits to your Velocity Program account.   Balance Transfer involves transferring the balance(s) of your other credit cards or loans to a Virgin Money Credit Card. The balances transferred will receive a promotional interest rate for a set period of time and can be a great way to save on interest charges.
  Once your balance(s) have been transferred, you might consider closing the other credit facilities you transferred balances from, as this would not happen automatically
  When considering a Balance Transfer promotion, it’s easy to focus on the low, or zero, interest rate being offered however don’t forget to consider the other features of the card and any applicable terms and conditions of the promotion.
  Most credit cards or loans from other financial institutions are eligible to have balances transferred to a Virgin Money Credit Card, provided that the card details match the BPAY reference number details of the financial institution. Where those details do not match, we are unable to process a balance transfer.
  We are aware of some financial institutions where card number and BPAY reference number do not match and which as a result are not eligible for a Balance Transfer, including:

  40,000 Bonus Velocity Points will be awarded each month $3,500 or more is spent on eligible purchases for first 60 days from approval (spend period). The first month begins on the date your account is approved. Please allow up to 1 week for your card to be mailed to you, leaving you about 3 weeks to meet the spend hurdle for the first month. The second month will commence one month from the date your account is approved. Purchases must be processed and charged to your account in the relevant month to count toward your monthly spend. An eligible purchase means any purchase excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, refunds and chargebacks, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, and fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges. Credit Card application must be submitted through this page. Points will be credited to the Primary Cardholder's Velocity account up to 2 months after the qualifying purchases.
  An additional 20,000 Velocity Points will be credited within 3 months of your anniversary when you keep your card open for over 12 months, provided it has been activated by you.
