What are Qantas Status Credits?
After joining the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program, every time you fly you will earn two things:
- Qantas Status Credits
- Qantas Points
Qantas points are easy to understand, they are basically money. You can use them to pay for flights, hotels or use them in the Qantas store to buy any number of goods, like a Dyson. One point is worth around 1.9 cents.
Qantas Status Credits allow you to unlock privileges on on Qantas, Jetstar, and oneworld member airline flights.
Qantas Frequent Flyer membership tiers
The goal of status credits is to earn enough in a year to reach a membership tier. There are five membership tiers:
- Bronze (0 status credits to reach)
- Silver (300 status credits, 250 to retain)
- Gold (700 status credits, 600 to retain)
- Platinum (1400 status credits, 1200 to retain)
- Platinum One (3600 status credits to reach and retain)
The higher status level, the more privileges you unlock and the higher the earn rate for your Qantas Points when you fly.
Gold and Platinum Tiers
These are considered the tiers that unlock the most benefits for the amount of flying required to unlock them.
Lounge Access
Both give you Lounge access, which for most people is the ultimate goal.
Gold gives you access to: Domestic Qantas Club, and International Business Lounge.
Platinum gives you access to: Domestic Business, and International First Class (where available).
Both lounges give you unlimited food and drink and a nice place to wait at the airport for your flight. The main difference is the lounges for Gold have smaller food selection, and the loungues for Platinum have a large buffet or even ala carte in the international first lounges.
Priority Security and Check In
For Gold, this is only available domestic, for platinum is available international as well.
Priority Phone Service
Might not seem like such a big deal, but with the way things are currently this makes a huge difference. The priority queue can be hours shorter than the regular Qantas phone queue.
